Skull Base Surgery

Skull base surgery is performed by Plastic surgeons to deal with accidents, birth defects and tumours that involve the skull base region. This surgery is usually performed in a multidisciplinary setting as a team with neurosurgeons and/ or ENT surgeons depending on the anatomy of the condition being treated. This may be at the junction of the eye sockets and nasal cavity or around the middle and inner ear. Using "hidden" incisions the skeleton of the skull and face may be disassembled to reach an area and then rebuilt.

Skull base and craniofacial surgery requires careful planning and care by a team who perform such surgery on a regular basis in order to achieve the best results. Such surgery now allows safe correction of conditions that were previously considered too risky too treat or virtually inoperable.
